I’ve been saving these purple runner bean seeds for the last 5 years or so with no problem.

I picked this years seed pods about 6 weeks ago because I found some hidden huge pods.

Most of them have a red dusting to them, it’s not actually powdery but you can see it has discoloured the pink and black parts of the bean skin. The plants have been healthy and still are. Is this a type or rust and should I throw them away?

Looks like some discoloration washed on to the seeds from the dried pod to me. I would put them on a sunny windowsill and get them really dry then job done but maybe a dusting of sulphur? But the look OK to me.

I agree with jambop,  a quick rinse and onto the windowsill.  They look a bit like "Painted Lady" seeds?

I wouldn't worry, I've had a few beans with odd colouring this year, I put it down to the heat and lack of rain in the Summer. My Borlotti beans were mostly white, none of the distinctive pattern you normally get!

Thank you all for your replies, they are very dry now so have gone into a paper bag. Will see what happens next year!
