Seedling compost
« on: September 08, 2020, 16:47 »
The multipurpose compost shortage abated a while back, but seedling compost (e.g. John Innes no. 1) is sold out everywhere and ridiculously expensive in stockists that do have some. Anyone know what's going on and whether there might be some in time for the new growing season?

I would expect this to be a temporary blip and, assuming no more lockdowns like we had at the start of the pandemic, things would be more similar to what you'd normally expect for next season.

At one point, our usual supplier had put all of its delivery drivers onto furlough because of the risks of delivering around the country, and couldn't source compost from its suppliers.  But we've just taken delivery of a pallet load or two of peat-free multi purpose compost, which suggests that supply chains are getting going again.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Early next year I'm having a crack at propagation of seeds in superfine vermiculite.  Fingers crossed. (This has just arrived).

Cheers,  Tony.

We're having problems sourcing products to sell in our DIY shop as manufactoring plants were all closed during lockdown.  They are beginning to get back into production but it's going to take some time for them to catch up.  We tried to order a specific item and were told 'try again about March as that comes from Germany'.  I think we all just have to be patient, we'll get there in the end.   Not helpful on this particular subject I know but relevant as to  a general answer.
