Potatoes are quite closely related to tomatoes and can produce similar looking fruits, although they don't turn red and are also poisonous. Perhaps you are a little later harvesting them this year compared with last?
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

Only poisonous if eaten, so you don't have to remove them unless you think there's a risk that someone might do just that.

Yes it is normal. Potatoes and tomatoes are from the same family and some varieties of potatoes will produce fruit when they mature. Unlike tomatoes, the fruit is inedible).

Quite a hotly debated subject at times! ::)

My guess would be that allowing flowering probably doesn't take much out of the plant, allowing them to go on to form fruits probably takes a bit more, although they've usually been harvested before that point is reached.

Removing them probably wouldn't make much difference either way now.
