It hasn’t really rained here for weeks ( London) and there’s none forecast. My strawberry bed is 2 years old, there are lots of flowers. Last year the crop was pitiful. Should I be watering regularly to encourage fruiting? And what about raspberries? The soil really looks dry. Thanks in advance.

I would have thought a watering would do them good. We had no rain for ages then over the past two days have had 75mm or more... garden is completely sodden! It is always the same down here no rain for weeks then too much in a short space of time.

I, like you, am hopeful our straws have made loads of flowers and the fruits are just starting to swell two or three weeks will tell the tale. What we need now is a period of dry sunny weather unfortunately we are getting some very thundery showery weather for the next couple of weeks Gardening... if you are not fighting the weather you are fighting the bugs and diseases!
