If you go down the chemical route, be careful of composting the debris as it might stay in the compost to cause issues when using the compost, look up aminopyralid herbicide on here.

Very true, but as Steve015 is a new gardener, the chances of the herbicide he uses being based on aminopyralid or similar are very slim.  Glyphosate is the intended chemical, which is a totally different chemical.

The aminopyralid herbicide issue is, in reality, a far greater risk from manure that contains plants that were treated with it.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Marestail can be killed by this product , brought it under control in my garden.
The issue is when the shoots first appear they open and realese spores which then start the cycle off again.

I read last year that it does not like alkaline soil so this year I have heavily limed the  in the border to my neighbours plot as he does not believe in weed killer.

Kurtail is a professional product, 4th season allot, so isn't suitable for recommending to the vast majority of our members

I wonder when it went proffesional as I bought my bottle at least 8 years ago and still have some left.
One of our local allotment associations sells small bottles of it.
Gryphosphate was banned a couple of years ago for private use also.

According to the HSE Garden pesticides database and the RHS, glyphosate is still legal for amateur use as well as professional use.

Some products' licences expire later this summer e.g. end June, but replacement licences have been applied for in respect of many products.  It's a watch this space but for now it is fine to use, legally.

As far as I am aware, Kurtail has always been licensed for professional use only.  Whether or not it has been sold in compliance with that is, of course, entirely another matter!
