Last year we bought some large tubtrugs that B&Q were selling off for £2. Hubby drilled holes in the bottom and we grew our potatoes in those. We got a pretty good crop and they are infinitely reuseable.

I grow potatoes in an old dustbin.  I put some drainage holes in the side a couple of inches up from the bottom and filled those bottom couple of inches with gravel to form a reservoir.  Planted 5 seed potatoes and kept topping up as the plants grew.  Crop was OK.  Not fantastic but certainly what I would have got from the same number of seed potatoes in the ground and in a lot less space.

Its a lot cheaper than one of those fancy potato barrels.  Still waiting for my Vales Emerald as well  :(
