Lovely neighbours are growing worried about the stunning cherry tree the inherited. For some reason its cherries have shrivelled or dropped as have the leaves which are starting to descend. Had a look today and there are globs of clear looking stuff hard as anything on the trunk. Anyone know if it's doomed, mr mannering??

The pictures and your description look like Bacterial Canker a very serious disease of mostly stone fruit. I'm not sure of the exact treatment or even if there is one. Other more knowledgeable members may have some idea. Or you could try searching plant sites like the royal horticultural society for answers. Sorry I could not be of more help.

It's hard to tell from the pics if there are any sunken areas where the gum is being extruded. Having had a look at the RHS site, sometimes this gum can be quite common but see what you think.
