Yesterday a friend (who is 20 years my junior) and I went to Leonardslea Gardens, Azaleas etc, 350 acres of sheer beauty. Lots of lovely mossy stumps. Oh, said friend, I want to do that with stumps. So, (you know me I will chatter with anyone) I approached one of the gardeners, and asked if he knew where my friend could get a stump. He said, come with me. Off we went right down the side of the hill to where they had been felling two very old big trees. Take your pick. Friend said, that one and that one please. He organised a big wheelbarrow, and then pushed these stumps up the very steep hill and right out to her car.
All for free. Carrying them in was a different matter.
Hers was almost dead and although much bigger was lighter, mine was new wood and very heavy. She couldn't lift it, but guess who did.
Anyway, I moved it around my garden a few times and didn't like it, so its going to join its stumpy friend in her garden.
Friends final comment was, I would never have dared ask him. I replied, that's why I talk to anybody
