Both these were planted in autumn and have done nicely; however the shallot leaves are all dying off and the tops of the garlic leaves are going yellow. Are the shallots ready a bit earlier or should they have been watered more regularly especially in this hot weather?

For shallots some people say "plant on the shortest day and harvest on the longest", so they are ready as they should be.
