Potatoes
« on: April 09, 2018, 11:14 »
Help please. I am poised to plant my early potatoes. I normally just dig holes and drop the potatoes in rather than digging trenches. I was wondering if it would hurt/be of any benefit to put some dried  manure on the bottom of each hole (I have dried cow's  dung in pellet form).

On the sameish subject, does anybody have any idea of what quantity of pellets I should cover the soil with? I usually just throw a handful per square metre and then rake it in a bit.

seed potatoes in Grow Your Own - Page 1 of 1

Where advertised on ebay the listing says to use 100-200 g / m ²

Thanks for your reply. Any ideas about whether I should put some pellets at the bottom of the holes?

I do bung pellets or potato fertiliser into the hole I drop my spuds into  :)
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Thanks for the advice Yorkie.
I put all my potatoes in two days ago and put pellets "on top" of the filled in holes.  But I will use your method next time.

I did this last year and germination was not 100%, about 75% for my earlies but my pink firs were better. I will mix some in with compost as usual this year.
