Hi

I keep large Light Sussex and i find that they lay really well , although they are prone to going broody.

Hi Bodger!  I have two big light sussex which have just started laying the last couple of weeks.  I've been getting about 5 eggs each a week from them.  They're very good at announcing when they've performed too!!
Lost, yesterday, somewhere between sunrise and sunset, two golden hours, each set with sixty minutes.  No reward is offered for they are gone forever. (Horace Mann)

There's a chap a few miles up the road with what to me looks like a lovely flock of  Light Sussex. The next time one of my hens go broody, I'll try and pluck the courage up to ask him for a sitting of eggs.

hi Bodger, dont know if this helps but there is a utility register in the Practical Poultry Magazine. This register focuses on supporting traditional utility strains. There are some contact details in there for Light Sussex -I wonder if you could obtain hatching eggs from them?
