Compost reviews 2017
« on: April 08, 2017, 21:12 »
I used Miracle Gro last year, and  it was brilliant, but this year the plants seem to be growing slowly,  roots considering the weather. It seems to settle down and get claggy rather than staying an open mix :(

I've still got 5 bags from my delivery, so I'll have to get some perlite/vermiculite to lighten the mix.

Has anybody found a good one this year?

I'm happy with Jacks Magic so far, did buy 3 bags of seed compost but can't remember what it is at the moment, I'll take a look tomorrow, most things have come through with it to date, just a few no shows with spring onions & lettuces but they were old seeds

For years I've only used Westland John Innes seed compost and it's been completely consistent...as you'd expect with a JI formulation. Germination is excellent and I can't praise it highly enough. For general potting on I use home-made bulked up with any cheap cr*p I can get my hands on.

So far this year I've only bought the Wyevale own brand stuff as I have had vouchers for money off.  Its very good - light and open and only the odd twig.

Anyone tried Hombase yet?  I bought some of their mega bags last year for filling big planters and was planning to do the same this year if it is OK again.
