Crocuses (Croci?)
« on: January 24, 2008, 15:28 »
Anyway, whatever the plural is they've come up in my back garden, purple & yellow, very pretty.  I've also got coming up hyacinths, which I loathe as I hate the smell, I dig them out religiously every year but for some reason I never seem to get all the bulbs out, I didn't plant them.  The only thing I could do is to take everything out of the beds completely and start again, but that's not an option now!

Do you mean grape hyacinths (the little bluey ones ) or the great big ones that sometimes people grow indoors?

They're blue and look like blubell flowers, I just hate the smell, reminds me of fresh air spray for some reason, too sweet and cloying for me.  By the way, some poppy seeds are going off to you in the post today :)

Well no doubt I'll be digging the bxggers up again later in the year and offering them on this site, I just can't get rid of them and they really annoy me!  Snowdrops sound painful, does heat treatment work?

Oh they're the great big ones, I wouldn't be too keen on them either, our grape hyacinths are just coming up now.

YAY, am looking forward to loads of poppies :D  THANKS :D

I think hyacinths smell lovely.  What I don't understand is how you are having difficulty killing them off - I didn't think it would be that difficult.  Now bluebells - they are weeds!

PS  Seeing a mass of bluebells in a wooded area is a truly beautiful sight (and they smell nice too but I think it has to be one of those balmy days....) but trying to get rid of them out of the garden is nigh impossible.
Failure is only a temporary change in direction to set you straight for your next success.
Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly.

Well for some reason I dig them up when I see them, give them away, then the next year they pop up in different places, by my garden's like that, the first year I had so many poppies nothing else got a look in, the next year only a few etc. I think the only way I could get rid of them is to dig out the beds completely.

I took a wander around the garden today to see what was showing.  I love this time of year as things start to awaken.  Just got a few primulas beginning to flower, but planted lots of daffodils, crocuses, and snakes head fritillaries this year, so I'll just have to wait and see.
On the very steep learning curve of organic veg growing!!!!

:D Primulas always remind me of my Granny; the first time she came to visit us (travelling all the way from Annan in Scotland down to us in the West Midlands) she brought a great big tray of primulas for my garden.

Ever since then I have always had them :D

My Nan always had snap dragons and sweet peas.  Whenever I see them, they remind me of her! I don't have much luck with sweet peas, but I do grow snapdragons.
