Is it ok to eat an egg that has a 'meat spot' in it?

I've always called it a blood spot myself.  A girl I used to work with refused to buy any of my eggs after she found one in her egg, but you do sometimes get them in shop eggs too!!!

You're quite right Shazzer.

A blood spot is caused by a blood vessel in the ovary rupturing as the yolk is released.

A  meat spot is a small piece of the hens tissue which may come from the linig of the oviduct.

They're not as red as blood GGrannie and look a bit more like a tiny pale brown blob.

I used to love them too, until we swopped to semi skimmed milk about 25 years ago, they just don't taste the same without the cream of the milk!!
