Presumably if it's from Ireland it will have a high peat content. Personally I have no problem with using small amounts of peat as I make a lot of my own compost but some people can be a bit touchy about peat-based composts. Get yourself a couple of compost heaps and leaf mould piles going and you'll not have to worry about woody bits or anything else.

SC are you Monty Don in disguise  :tongue2:

Must be about 1 to 50,00 gardeners have access to enough leaves to make a pile never mind get enough leaf mould to use!

You can get leaves - its having the space for a couple of leaf mould stacks that foxes me

If you ask a local gardening firm or get a contact number at anywhere where they have garden maintenance services coming in, you can have as many as you like each autumn.

I used to work at a retail nursery where they also had garden maintenance vans out and about every day.   A mountainous leaf mould stack was easy for us as we had yard space.  I used to have a nice sideline running for choccy biccies for the nursery sales office from customers who wanted to dig out bags of the old stuff and take it away  ;)
