Ok pulled a couple of parsnips today thought i was onto a good thing the top was large but on pulling it they were all like little tails underneathwith about 3ins of decent parsnip what caused this the soils good no stones ,
from dissapointed .

Did you sow them or plant them as plugs?

I sowed them straight into the ground and theve grown lovley , tops nice and green , i wont waste them.

It is early to be pulling them especially as far North as you are.  I expect I sow mine earlier than you but don't usually pull any before November.
Sometimes it is better to keep your mouth shut and be suspected of knowing nothing than opening it and proving it.

I only pulled 2 i thought it was abit early myself but my daughter said her boyfriends dad had pulled his and hes big into gardening , won prizes in the past but i know hes not been well he must have a reason , but still the ends of mine look like some wierd octopus experiment .

It is a bit early, but for the past 2 years I have only had tiny parsnip offerings.  However the previous year they were lovely!  And not grown in the same bit of ground each time either!  :mellow:
