hi we have just got 2 chicks and an eglu.  we gave them a dust bath and they tried to eat it and then spread it around the run.  Is this safe? and what precautions do we have to take when they free range :D

Green :?:   Fits beak :?:   They'll eat it.

Green :?:   Doesn't fit beak :?:   They'll tear it to shreds and eat some of it, rest left to decorate the garden.

Owt poisonous, they'll take a little peck and then ignore it.

Lawns :!:   Favourite junk food to hens.

Chilli plants - hmm nice hot dersert for afters.

If you want to get rid of your lawn, put the chickens on it!!!! lol

What did you put in the dustbath for them to want to eat it, and you said they are chicks!!  How old are they?  Our chicks didn't get access to a proper dustbath until they were 10 weeks old.  Befor that they would dustbthe in their shavings and straw.  Now they use the polytunnel!!!

Mine eat dustbath, soil from plant pots.

Don't eat (unless nothing else available) poultry grit.

They're awkward, daft and very entertaining.

Best way to get them to eat something (thats good for them) is to make it reasonably inaccessible
