Pruning Aubergines
« on: August 25, 2016, 22:07 »
I'm interested in the benefits of pruning the plants and/or hand pollinating.

My yields are very good and i pick enough from 4 plants (av. 12+ per plant so far) to use fresh with plenty left to freeze for winter but i'm curious as to whether it's worth the (small) effort to prune so as to increase yields. I may be able to reduce the numbers of plants i grow. Space is always as issue.

Anyone follow this practice? Any recommendations?
Grow lights for early germination;
Blow away on NE facing terrace for hardening off;
Small potager 90sq.m at 300metres
No-dig method, intensive planting and incorporating permaculture principles.

I don't prune mine so much as cut off any bits sticking out and in the way when I walk past. I am just glad to have any set fruit tbh
