Can my shop bought potted gerbera be coaxed into flowering again - in it's pot?  Or would I be better off planting it in a planter in the garden?

At the moment it has abundant green leaves on my office desk but no sign of any new flowers. (Unfortunately I was off work longer than planned over Easter and the two flowers I bought it with had collapsed due to insufficient water.)

I got some for Mother's day 
The RHS says they don't flower much in their first season, but I'm going to try giving them a liquid feed and we'll see what happens
