If you grow a first early variety they will be ready before blight attacks. Rocket and Swift grow quickly and are usually in Garden Centres now. Any others that say First early on the pack would be good too.

You can plant them now

Hope that helps

I normally only grow Charlotte second early I think, but they seem to store fairly well for several months,  and I would suggest those. This year I am also trying carlingford but I can't say what they are like as I've never tried them before..apparantly they are good in bags or containers so I will let you know in 4 months!

We like Charlottes too. If you like them, you might find you like Dunluce as a first early. For us, they came out tasting surprisingly Charlotte-like, so much so that when we finished them the first time I grew them, I was a bit worried we might find the Charlottes a disappointment.
