Early potatoes already?
« on: December 29, 2015, 20:09 »
I noticed a couple of potato shoots earllier today where I must have left some spuds in last year.

Given this mild weather, do you think I could get away with planting my earlies already? I aim to keep the soil warm with a layer of horse muck

The thinking is that it's going to turn cold in about 2 weeks time, lasting a couple of weeks.

I wouldn't try it, but you might think it's worth a punt.
If you plant them deep enough to avoid any cold snaps, some should grow anyway, even if no earlier then usual.

I too have many potatos sprouting at the plot, but they all get damaged with last frosts (they are all here and there and can not cover them up ..so thinking of not bothering for those
