Lonely bantam
« on: August 02, 2015, 08:54 »
a few weeks ago we lost one of our two white leghorn bantams we only had 2!

To avoid the one being left on her own we purchased 2  bantam barred wynadottes for company. They were 10 weeks old at the time.

We have now had they for 5 weeks and they all get along. However, the 2 newbies stick together and the leghorn is still on her own and appears really lonely. She has now started laying anywhere where she always laid in the nesting box. We are now considering getting another white leghorn for her. Is this what we should be doing or just leave the 3 of them to it?

Stay with it. Adding one more could really cause ructions. It is likely that very gradually they will start to move together in their daily doings. If you do decide to add to a flock always add at least two, one is a no no   :)
Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted!!

Thanks so much for your response. As you say we will bear with it and hopefully it will all settle down.
