Hi folks

Can anyone tell me when ducks come into lay? I have some that are only 15 weeks old, so I know that they are too young, but I have others that are just over 19 weeks old, so I would have thought it would be soon.

Also, what do you worm ducks with because I know that Flubenvet (when you can get it) is poisonous to ducks.

Flubenvet is not licensed for ducks (simply because they haven't done any tests on ducks) but many still use it, however a vet would need to work out the dosage for you.
You are best dosing them twice a year - once in spring before laying and then again in autumn after the mating season.

i was told not to use it because it was poisonous. I'll give my vet a ring to find out the dosage - luckily we have one that is poultry savvy so that he can advise - not that we can get Flubenvet anywhere at the moment!

you could also try pm-ing Kate and her ducks on here - she will know but as I'm sure you are aware ducks really do need something that will get rid of worms because of the amount of slugs they can consume.

Re coming into lay - when they are ready! Not being smart but this is the same for all birds
