Is my broccoli bolting?
« on: July 08, 2015, 13:27 »
Never grown broccoli before (!). My plants are strong and healthy and all have little broccoli heads. One head is about the size of a tennis ball but is a very irregular shape, quite open and ragged looking. All the plants and all the heads are a sort of (quite attractive) blue/grey colour - certainly not the vivid green you see in shop-bought stuff. Are they going to bolt? Should I pick them and cut my losses? Can I eat them? They did have a stressful time of it when I had to unearth them a month ago and move lotties (long story!) but they recovered beautifully. Advice please?  :(
Carpe Diem

It may depend on the variety but a blue-green colour is what mine usually have. They can bolt in warm weather so I'd pick them as you should get side-shoots coming off the plant for more pickings.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

If the little buds look like they are going to open their flowers, then yes, they are bolting  :(
