I cut some of my blocking 14 today I lie it between the bean poles where it acts as a mulch and quickly rots down. It suppresses the weeds and I only have the thick stalks to collect up when it has rotted.

I did the same with my spring onions, I tend to have furrows between rows that hold water then it soaks into ground making the onions put down nice roots to get at the water. The hillocks help blanch the bottom of the onions, and now every time it rains they get a little comfrey tea

is this comfrey?

The second picture looks a bit like foxglove to me, the stem looks different than comfrey, could be the angle of the pic though, Dave

Dave I think you may be right!
They are in the next plot up from my own (which has been abandoned) and i seem to remember seeing foxgloves there last year. (oh well, the search continues)
