Wolf Garten DAS Multi-Change Soil Miller
« on: March 07, 2015, 20:23 »
Hi all
I bought a Wolf Garten DAS Multi-Change Soil Miller, I used it to day but found it impossible to use, I dug out one of my beds then tried to use the Soil Miller but all the soil just blocked up around it like a ball.

Is there a certain way of using the tool or does it only work on certain soil ?? my soil is very clayey, I have added a load of horse manure on top of the soil and I am going to try the soil miler again after the horse manure has been sitting there for a few days.

If the soil miler don't work next time its going in the bin, paid £29,99 for the soil miler and £11.00 for the handle so far its a waste of money

It works best on dry soil, if it is too damp you have to keep stopping and clearing the tines, which is a pain as you have discovered. :(

Annen's right. It's a great piece of kit but isn't designed for wet soils.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Have to agree, I have one and it is great but only when the soil has dried out a bit. I'm just down the road from you and our clay soil is still a bit on the sticky side for even digging.

Also, the tines aren't built to break up manure if it's in large strawy clods.  I suspect the manure may be sticking to them.   The tool is designed to break soil into smaller lumps.

I love it!  It does the same job as I used to do with the rake, but better.. you know, raking and breaking up lumps with the back of the rake, but I don't think it would replace a tiller which I think might be able to use better on damper soil.

Colin, you haven't wasted your money at all! Just wait a few weeks until everything dries out, and it will be a great tool to have!

Manure just clogs up most tools, including mechanical rotavators, and it won't get easy until it's nice and dry, so wait a bit and go again, as you'll be fine!

I like the look of those Wolf tools, and would have done the same as you!
