How to deal with Green Manure crop
« on: December 21, 2014, 13:20 »
After potatoes came out this year, dug in a load of compost and then sowed a green manure crop.
This is now about 300mm (12") high ..

What is best approach ... thought I would simply try and dig it in with a spade turning it over so all the crop is buried under the soil ... then leave for a couple of weeks - then run tiller over the lot.  ?

Generally, yes, but depends a bit on the type of Green Manure you sowed - for some it will be important to incorporate before they set seed.

Either way, it is better not to incorporate until just before sowing/planting the next crop (unless the setting-seed thing catches up on you) so that the green manure is bury doing its job, locking up nutrients, preventing rain from washing them out etc. so in general don't incorporate it until it comes time for the next crop

Generally, yes, but depends a bit ....

It's Caliente mustard.
Not seeded yet  ... and have onions & shallots ready to go in
