Barbara Butternut - thanks Snoop
« on: November 08, 2014, 11:03 »
I tried Barbara butternut squash this year on a recommendation from Snoop. What a success - the plants grew like crazy and I have 20 squashes from 4 plants. Average weight 3 kg (what happened to the 'average weight 800 - 1500 g on the packet?). My previous favourite Buttercup only managed 3 fruits from 2 plants.

Trouble is there are only 2 of us.... by my calculations eating one a week for the next 5 months will mean having squash 4 nights a week!

Thanks also to all who share their recommendations on here. I grow veg in my garden, not on an allotment, so there's no other way I could keep up with what's good given the vast amount of choice (and marketing) out there.
