transplanting a blackcurrent bush
« on: November 04, 2014, 11:48 »
It is a beautiful sunny day and I am looking for jobs to do! I have a blackcurrant bush that needs moving. Am I OK to o it yet or is it too early? It is in a container and I want to plant it out.

Thank you  :)

I'd be more worried about the hard frosts to come in the next week or so. I was up at 5am today and there was a proper ice layer on the car and so I wonder if the ice might cause damage to your plant should you water it in.

As you say, it's a nice day, and I thought I'd help with a quick reply as it will be warm only for a short time. How about these ideas? Have you prepared the area where you want the blackcurrant bush? It will fruit for around 10 years and so this time spent preparing will be well worth it.

Also, do you need to trim/prune your b/c bush? If so, you might take the opportunity to take cuttings. I did mine yesterday and got buckets of cuttings. If only half take, I'll be up to my neck in blackcurrants!

There's so many lovely jobs to do in the garden right now; the only thing I'm not doing is watering my plants.

If it's in a container I think you can pretty much plant it out at any point. If the ground's ready, I'd get it in.

It is in but not watered; thank you both  :D

The container was relatively large as I had intended to leave it in but changed my mind  ::) and the area was well prepared so I dug a container sized hole and popped it in.

I love gardening in a t-shirt in November!
