Having read everyone's comments on dehydrators, I've just ordered one and am about to give it a try. *very excited*

OH said 'you could even use it for seeds'' which has got me thinking. I usually use the hot rice in a jar method, a la Real Seeds, to dry out any seeds I might want to keep for a while. Has anyone used a dehydrator for this and if so, how do you avoid cooking/killing the seeds?

I don't think I would, I would be concerned about the heat level. My technique is fairly simplistic Pile seeds onto plates when harvested, leave on said plates for a long time, package when I remember too.

Personally I wouldn't unless I wanted to eat the seeds. All the articles I have read online say the dehydrator needs to be set lower than 95F/35C. My minimum temp is 35C so my thinking is that I would be cooking them. I'd rather air-dry then use the (cooled) baked rice method for seeds.

Still, I guess you could give it a go and compare germination results next year.

But a dehydrator for pretty much everything else is a genius thing! Am refilling with apple rings tonight.
