For anyone who doesnt subscribe to Marshalls - they are introducing a new red hardneck for Autumn planting. 4 for 6.95. Looks interesting but I have enough for this year.

I noticed several online stockists are selling Red Duke this year - Kings Seeds are doing an autumn garlic offer of 1x bulb each of Red Duke, Red Donetsky, Provence & Solent for £5.95p ... the downside with a lot of these online places is the p&p cost on top

The other problem is that whenever I order from one of the bigger companies I always seem to get lumbered with a substituted variety I didn't order.  It has happened to me with King's Seeds in the past, but at least they warned me about it first.  This year I ordered the Garlic Lover's Collection from Suttons.  When I ordered it, this consisted of 2 x Edenrose, 2x Printanor, 2 x Germidor and 2 x Messidrome for a good price.

I received my parcel this morning and was dismayed to find that the Printanor and Germidor have been replaced with Solent Wight and Purple Wight.   Very annoyed as I wouldn't have ordered anything with Solent Wight after a couple of poor experiences.   There wasn't even an apology or even a mention of a substitution in the paperwork.   Looking online they have now amended the contents of the collection and Printanor and Germidor are showing as sold out.   Grrrr.

Surely this is covered by the Sale of Goods Act if you are supplied with a substitution without prior consultation?  Like you, I would have been very annoyed as you want the garlic that they are advertising, especially if you don't want what they were substituting.  I have used Suttons before and found them to be very helpful when I once made a complaint - why not get back to them and although they may not have the stock of garlic you wanted, they may refund/send a voucher for something else instead?  If you don't complain, it will be assumed you found the substitution acceptable and they won't want to lose future customers.
