The two biggest fruit on the capsicum "California Wonder" have gone all rotten at the blossom end, any ideas why?

sweet peppers can get blossom end rot due to inconsistent watering / lack of calcium in the soil just like tomatoes, but, it may be there is something that has got inside (check for grubs) or there was sun scorch earlier in the fruit development (basically cell damage)

I had a good look and there were no little holes or grubs.
As to irregular watering, this unfortunately does happen  ::) , but no more this year than any other year, so I am a bit surprised.

It could be sun scorch, I hadn't thought of that, but it seems strange that it has happened on the same place on each fruit.  Although now I think about it, both were together on the same truss.

Sun scorch usually affects the sides or shoulders, it's unusual for the bottoms to scorch.

Perhaps the greenhouse was a hotter for longer periods this year, so needed more water than usual.
Dissappointing when they've got that big though  :(

Bottoms will scorch if the sun can get at them !  :)

Pass the calomine !

The peppers do look part cooked.

an alternate idea I thought about - what about a drop in temperature?  We did get some unusually cold days in August

Its a possibility, it did get quite cold at times.  None of the other sweet peppers were affected, but they are a different variety.
