One Half Mushy Potato?
« on: July 26, 2014, 22:56 »
I dug up four rows of Estima potatoes and was really impressed by the amount and quality I dug up however one of the potatoes plants I dug up had a single tuber which was OK on one side but mushy (like jelly) on the other half, I have removed it from the plot and disposed of it but was wondering what the cause was, is it blight?

The bad half had the mushy consistency of a seed potato from a first early.

Are you sure it wasn't the original seed potato?

If not, then it could be that a slug/wireworm has taken a nibble and then rot has set in.

If it was blight, I would expect more than one potato to go bad.

I am pretty sure it was not the original seed potato, one half looked normal the bad half fell off in a gooey mess when I picked it up.

Sometimes I think they can just get damaged and so they are prone to anything else around.  If it's just the one I wouldn't worry.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
