Pumpkins - Chop off some fruits?
« on: July 23, 2014, 14:46 »
My one pumpkin plant which I have grown from a seed saved from a pumpkin bought from Tesco last October, is going great guns!

I have one 10 cm sized pumpkin, about 3 golf ball sized pumpkins and about 20 flowers with small bulbous growth, all looking like they will turn into pumpkins too!! I thought I would only get one fruit from one plant, but this doesn’t seem to be the case.

Should I cut off some of the fruits so that the all the energy of the plant is put into growth of the remaining fruits?

Thanks.

Depends how big you want them to be. Show growers grow one as the giant & another one as a safety valve to stop the first one exploding . You could leave a few for medium sized fruit & then stop them.
