Potato Scab
« on: July 17, 2014, 09:08 »
Hi there, this is my first year growing stuff and planted loads of new potatoes!  They were perfect to start with but now most of them have some scab.  There is still an awful lot left, my question is should I dig them all up now or just keep digging em up as required? Currently eating Nicola and Foremost, loads of Foremost left and haven't touched the International Kidney yet...Have read that Foremost store quite well but with the scab is it better to leave in the ground for now? Advice appreciated!

I would probably leave it in the ground - I don't have decent storage facilities and if the scab is going to be peeled off anyway, then might as well keep them in optimum conditions underground.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Scab does not damage the flesh itself, only makes patches on the skin, so they will be inedible by leaving them in the ground until you want to eat them.

Wisdom is knowing what to ignore - be comfortable in your own skin.
