Abandonment
« on: July 14, 2014, 14:00 »
I have a Buff Orpington/Cream Legbar broody and she hatched 3 pure Buff Orpington chicks (all female  :) about 6 weeks ago and was absolutely ferocious if we went near her. On Saturday she flew out of the run I have them in but went back in at 'bedtime' but last night she flew out again and went into the main coop with the others. Has she just left them as she thinks they are old enough or might she be broody again, she has never sat on any of her eggs but she would sit an a brick if she thought it would hatch. She got into the duck house and sat on their eggs till I gave her 4 BO eggs to sit on.

6 weeks is about the right time to leave them. Sometimes a hen will want to go backwards and forwards for a while. :)
