Does anyone have a reason or solution perhaps to blind sweet peas please?

We have a 6ft row that has grown well with many over 6ft high and looking healthy enough, but with very few flowers, plenty of stems but no heads!

All the information I have read is that this is a fairly common problem and without reason why it appears and should pass in time, but the season is well advanced now and shows little sign of improving.

Any advice much appreciated, thanks.

All I can think of is that they are too busy growing stems and foliage at the moment to think about flowering - that might be because they have been given too much nitrogen, but hopefully are just going to flower a bit later than expected.

Just keep them well watered - if you do feed them a tomato fertiliser would be a much better choice than the general purpose varieties which are mostly rather nitrogen-rich.

You may have something there and I have wondered. Being that they are in a comparatively small bed, the soil was replaced at the start of the season that was fresh from the compost bin.
So maybe to rich for them, as I said the plants themselves have responded well.

They will get there, never fear 

Mine planted alongside the runner beans (and therefore in rich soil) didn't start flowering until they were about four feet tall: they are flowering like mad now alright
