Potatoes, Lime and Wood Ash

Hi,

The potato patch has had wood ash on. I know wood ash can be substituted for lime. Will it have the same effect on the potatoes as lime would?

cheers

edit: note to self: buy a pH meter!

Mix it in well since it is physical contact with the tubers which leads to the scab.  If you do get some scab, it does not affect eating quality.

Before you plant any spuds, I'd buy that pH meter and check what level you have. Potatoes really don't like limey soil. They'll grow but not as well as they could. Yields will be small and almost not worth the bother.
