started mine in pots this year

germinated lovely , planted out about 3 cm high by the morning all gone

I will now get mine from Iceland's freezer cabinet

Pigeons get up earlier than you and they love their greens...   I doubt mice would totally eat a whole row of small pea plants - old seed and the greens..

nope netted over and framed - definitely mice's if not voles , I have banks peppered with vole holes round my garden , you can hear them squeaking as you walk past and to add insult to injury a pesky meece has devoured my sweet corn in the green house - oh well dum de dum

I agree with you.  You could almost believe our mice lived underground, the amount of seeds and seedlings they have taken from below - netting doesn't help.  That's why I've gone back to pots in the GH and waiting until the seed is all used up before planting out.  THEN I cover with netting to stop the birds and cats getting in and I "mulch" with heavy stones to stop the mice from below.  And so far this seems to work, even in a garden that can be overrun by mice at times.

Netted a newly sown row yesterday, and earthed up the netting to stop anything getting under. Stuck a trap at either end with some soaked peas as bait. Bingo. One down.

He's now nailed to the potting shed door as a warning to others ;)

Off topic a bit but still to do with peas..

Question for DD et al.. ... My peas have loads of pea wevil scallops eaten into their leaves.. what can I do to prevent it and confirm they will survive to grow big and strong?

Pea weevil doesn't do much damage to grown plants or peas  :)
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

funny you should suggest this Lesley - was saying to hubby today about planting them in some old plastic buckets in the greenhouse and leave them to grow in the said buckets , we don't seem to have so many probs in there as the bait and traps set in there seem to keep the blighters out of there - will report on how I get on  ;)
