Nutshells in compost
« on: May 01, 2014, 20:37 »
Hi all,
I got some nuts in shells for Christmas which I am just getting round to cracking. Taste great!
But I was wondering about chucking the shells in the compost. I don't expect they'd break down for years, but would they be useful to aid drainage? Or is it just a silly idea?
Cheers
Steve

I do the same as snowdrops. If they haven't decomposed when you sieve the compost you just chuck them back in. If using the compost as mulch they just get incorporated into the soil.
