Things always seem to grow more quickly after rain than watering them with tap water.

I thought I was imaging it. I'm glad someone else has noticed. I've got two theories:

1 - Rain water contains different trace minerals when compared with tap water

2 - Plants may be more effective at using the water in the soil when the air is damp too, because the plant isn't battling against evaporation

3 - I could be talking total guff

Possibly but if I say that to all the old boys they would be impressed.  :D plants do much better with rain water.

'Cos it has Nitrogen dissolved n it (think N of NPK fertiliser) and it's chlorine free - which plants prefer  :)

I think that an hour's steady rain waters  everything far more effectively than as much watering I can do

We had a few hours rain yesterday and last night,  although I didn't hear it,  checked my rain collector this morning and it has approx 80L more than Thursday.  :D  thats equivalent to about an inch of rain

I took this week off to dig, cue heavens opening... ::)

Can't dig till the standing water goes to wherever it goes to - my windowsills and the balcony are overflowing with seedlings and I am beyond frustrated!
