Tomatoes not doing well
« on: April 22, 2014, 22:11 »
MY tomatoes are growing very slowly.  In the house in a unheated covered tray.  I keep moving them into the light.  The cucumbers and squash look good.  When I reported the tomatoes they had very few roots and the compost was wet.  I am wondering if I have overextended them.  Will they grow stronger or should I start again.

Covered tray? They should not be covered by anything. What have you got them covered with?
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Who did you report them to? Maybe they not doing their job properly.

Sorry I'll leave now

My tomatoes are in an unheated greenhouse and are a bit slow but the roots were fine when I put them in bigger pots  they may catch up.

Propagator is for propagating seeds, not growing plants in. Take the lid off, keep warm, and if anything keep the compost on the dry side until they start to put out plenty of root.

They will produce more roots from the stem if you remove lower leaves and repot deeper. I take off the side shoots and pot them if I am short of plants.

Try re-potting them, but water in sparely as seedlings shouldn't be in wet compost. Keeping the lid on in an unheated propagator won't allow the compost to dry out, even with the vents open. I'd also sow some more just in case.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.
