What to do with surplus of nettle tea
« on: April 13, 2014, 21:44 »
Hi,
I made and stored a load of nettle tea last year, and have another bin full on the brew.
Any ideas what to do with the surplus? Is it worth just pouring it on the area I am yet to plant on, just to give fertility a boost? Or does it depend what I intend to plant there?

Cheers
Steve

I've got about 20 gallons of seaweed 'tea' ready for this season. Once things get growing it's amazing how much you can get through so you may not have a surplus for long.

It is usual to dilute comfrey tea and, by analogy, I presume also nettle tea, because of the strength of them.

If you over-apply some nutrients, it can prevent other nutrients being taken up.

I don't think I'd risk doing what you suggest immediately before planting out in case you affect the roots or nutrient take-up as the plant gets established.  If you leave it long enough to be 'safe', the nutrients will probably have leached out and thus you'll have wasted it.

Perhaps donate some to an allotment neighbour?
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Am I right in thinking nettle tea is best for leafy veg & comfrey for fruiting plants or am I making that up?

Thanks all for your help.
Yes, Mum, as far as I understand  it is good for green, leafy veg.
