Growing Oka
« on: March 11, 2014, 10:04 »
I have been considering trying to grow Oka tubers?  Not sure how they would do here?  Anyone got any advice both on how to grow and where to buy the tubers?  Many thanks

there's quite an extended thread about oca:   http://chat.allotment-garden.org/index.php?topic=99001.0

they do very well in the UK - The Real Seeds Catalogue http://www.realseeds.co.uk/unusualtubers.html and Pennard Plants http://www.pennardplants.com/products.php?cat=400 supply tubers.  They are expensive to start off with, but you get a lot of return at the end of the season and thereafter, use your own saved tubers for future growing.

The trick to ensure good sized tubers is to let them die back completely at the end of the year (autumn frosts will kill off the top part but leave it some more until it is straw so that all the food goes into the developing tubers  ;)
