Have you stored it covered or open to the rain?

i've only had dealings with cow muck when i worked on a farm. when it's being spread (6 to 12 months old) it's still heavy and cloggy.

so much so that you have to make sure you don't pick too much up with the digger or it'll tip, think the spreaders are rated at 20 tonnes (which for the amount of space available is huge). we never weighed them full as they never went on the road, but you can tell when pulling them they weigh a bit.

i can only assume that as they make the spreaders capable of carrying the big weight compared to space available, it's just a heavy substance.

cow muck likes to keep hold of water, if it's well rotted then just spread it out to help it dry before digging in, makes it a lot easier if its dry, family also worked on farms including myself over the years  :)
who pinched me marrow?

I'm only able to use cow mck on my plot. The stuff I've been given is not well rotted but its been on my plot for a few months, when I've been digging it in its much heavier and wetter than the soil!
