Just seen on one of the experienced plot members FB page they have put in runner beans today, surely not  I thought it was far far too early for runners  have I got it wrong

I have sown dwarf french and runners for the poly they have two chances ! I think down here we may get away with it  I will add thats in frost free GH so at least a month before they move

Nope they sowed broads too.

I was early last year with runner, the frost go them and I had to start all over again - I won't be doing that one again they grow so quickly anyway. I will start them off in loo rolls in the greenhouse just to get them pass the slugs.

I have one runner bean growing in the same pot as my money tree in the living room its over 2 feet high

I've had a go at overwintering some of mine- they are perennials after all, and it's been a mild winter so far, I might be lucky; will report back later in the year.

Many years ago (pre Munty frame) on one occasion I just chopped off the old runner bean bines at soil level and dumped a load of compostable stuff on top (pre having enough daleks too!)

Clearing it away the following spring I was amazed to find that the roots were sprouting new shoots left, right and centre - it must have been sufficiently mild and protected for them to survive. It was a shame I wasn't able to leave them to grow there that year because it would have been interesting to find out how well they cropped compared to freshly sown plants (I did try storing some of the 'tubers' in the shed the following winter but they succumbed to frost and mould unfortunately.)
