Potato fertiliser
« on: February 08, 2014, 08:19 »
I'm sure this subject must be in the history somewhere but not easy to search here on the phone so apologies for that.          I am going to pot up a few rocket potatoes this weekend and intend to put a few inches of horse muck in the bottom then a couple of inches of mpc to plant on then top up with a mix of mpc and soil over them. I would think they would benefit from some fertiliser in the mix so I'm looking for advice. I have a stock of bfb and also bonemeal. I also have comfrey growing currently about a foot high. I don't mind getting something else such as chicken pellets or growmore but welcome suggestions.

Well I learnt something today after reading that link. I was under the impression you manured the ground the potatoes had come from not going into. No wonder I haven't been happy with my potatoes  :nowink:

I have to admit that I only gave mine in the outside beds a token sprinkle of grow more or chicken pellets on planting. I will up the dose in future. I might add slug pellets too at time of planting as we do suffer on this clay soil. But will the spuds absorb some of the nasty ingredients? I'm not particularly organic but that thought doesn't appeal to me.
