Does make you wonder just who is doing the calculations. Supposedly, most are for the 'average' family, all of whom work or go to school and have no time to cook from scratch (which is probably why everyone has to work in the first place  ::) )

You can cook a meal as cheap as £2 a head if you follow their advice. My advice to them is get real. A family of five at that is a tenner, you can do a heck of a lot better than that! They have no idea. A breast of lamb does two people? That is not cheap.

No wonder people on a tight budget think it is cheaper to buy a budget ready meal.

And don't forget your budget wine to go with it!

These chefs don't live in the real world.
They are surrounded by the best ingredients but they are good at making the most of all ingredients including the left overs.

These are things that a lot of people don't know how to do.

Everyone here is totally clued up about not wasting food, and how to make good nourishing, tasty food from scratch.

Mary Berry is more down to earth love her, although I don't think she is really clued in to the people in our society who are are on very low incomes, either.

I do like watching tho' just for the pure joy and enthusiasm that oozes from Michel Roux. I think he is just lovely. :)

It's s'posed to be entertainment for goodness sake  ::)

The type of meals that people cook when they're really skint just wouldn't be entertaining for the majority, now would they?

True, mum, but I'm sure they'd really appeal to those truly skint and hungry. It wouldn't be entertainment in that case but it sure would be reality.

just bought my good food mag which has an article on 99p meals , not looked at it closely but would think the more store cupboard things you have would give you a grater scope , ive allways had a few tins of stuff tucked away for leaner days .

I agree with you, chrissie. One famous US chef was showing how she egg dipped two slices of panecetta and the dip bowl had 6 eggs!! way more than was needed and would be tossed. I hate such waste.

I allways give the dog my spare egg , its not a waste if its used , I know they have to have food ready at different stages but what I want to know is what happens to all the stages of food that don't get finished on the tv , I think with jamies meals in 15 or 30 mins there wouldn't be time for that .
