It's usually recommended not to grow root crops in freshly manured ground in case it causes forking of the roots, but apart from that it's largely a question of what you like to eat, which only you know the answer to of course.  ;)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

Forking of roots has been talked about on here before, so perhaps search previous posts on this. If you don't dig the manure in, it shouldn't be a problem, especially for onions.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

How much pigeon manure did you put on? If you added 5" of pige poo then no you might have a problem but a normal layer of an inch or so will be fine.

Surely forking of roots is for carrots etc... onions dont fork... or do they?

Beetroot actually need nitrates so they would do really well. Quote from Johns GYO info on the site. "Beetroot benefit from a nitrogen feed (unlike other root crops). Use some pelleted chicken manure or other high nitrogen fertiliser at the recommended rate"

On my roof top garden (and at the plot) I use  fertilizer and chicken pellets.. Also loads of fresh horse manure. I cant see a problem with Onions etc. I assume you will still use fertilizer as the manure is not going to keep them going for the season..

Bird guano is very rich.. Wish I could get some - especially for my sweetcorn.. 4.2% nitrogen, 3% phosphorus, and 1.4% potassium   High in N and P - good for roots and greenery... lower in K (potash) not a bad mix really.  Good for most but not for toms or potatoes.

Edited to correct spelling of "pigeon" for search purposes.
