Inca Berries - Anyone had a go?
« on: December 20, 2013, 09:48 »
Morning All,

On looking through the James Wong collection, I am a bit intrigued by the Inca Berries. Apparently they grow as easy as tomatoes but with less faff...?

Has anyone tried growing these successfully and have any tips etc. on growing them?

And how do they taste?  :D

Cheers,
Jim

Yes , we grew them this year. Slow to start but they did finally move. Easy, did not need to stake lots of fruit.....BUT we didn't like them very much. They are also known as Cape Gooseberries and you will get the seeds much cheaper from other suppliers. PM me if you would like the ones I still have as I shan't be using them.
I'd better add that some people we gave them to did like them.

I grew them too - though they were the cape gooseberries that Suttons also sell. I think they were the dwarf version rather than the big ones, but they still gave masses of fruit. They were so sweet, they tasted a lot like honey and we loved them. My friends kids thought that they were amazing.

I grew them in 3L pots outside. And also have masses of seed if you want some!  :D
